PROVO — Brigham Young University is raising student tuition from $2,500 to $2,575 per semester for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The 3 percent tuition increase will cover costs such as salaries, payroll benefits, travel, supplies and library and laboratory materials, according to a university press release.
“We always have new equipment that we’re adding,” said Carri Jenkins, assistant to the president for university communications. “In order to run a fine-quality university, you have to stay up to date.”
Tuition will also increase $95 for graduate students and $175 for students at the law school and the graduate school of management.
Students who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pay twice as much as LDS students, and their 3 percent increase will go into effect at the same time.
Jenkins said the increase is very much in line with increases in the past.
