YOUR LIVING ROOM — In October, you can expect to see a lot more pink than you are used to. That's because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of my grandmother who is a survivor of breast cancer, here are three films that feature cancer patients.

"Brian's Song" (1970)

Based on a true story, "Brian's Song" is the story of Chicago Bears running back Brian Piccolo. In the film, Piccolo is diagnosed with a terminal cancer and leans on the support of his legendary teammate, Gale Sayers. While Sayers' career was terrific, this story of true friendship amid unthinkable conditions is unforgettable. Check out "Brian's Song" if you're a football fan or just someone in the mood for an empowering story.

"Patch Adams" (1998)

In "Patch Adams," the late Robin Williams plays the title character. The film starts with Adams checking himself into a psychiatric unit. While there, Adams gains the uncanny ability to reach his fellow patients, one of whom gives him the nickname "Patch." Encouraged by his experiences there, Adams turns his focus to being a doctor. In medical school, Adams is beloved by his patients (many of whom are children that have terminal cancer) but hated by his professors because of his unconventional approach. Throw on "Patch Adams" if you need a good laugh and to find hope when everything looks bleak.

"A Walk to Remember" (2002)

In "A Walk to Remember," a brash and cocky boy, Landon Carter, is sentenced to community service and forced to participate in the drama club after his hazing antics paralyzes a fellow student. In the drama club, Carter meets the shy and highly religious Jamie Sullivan. As fate would have it, the two fall in love, much to the chagrin of friends and family. But, Sullivan has a secret that she's been hiding from everyone that threatens the future of their relationship. Not to give away the twist, but the movie is over a decade old and this is an article about cancer in the movies. So, bust out the tissues and enjoy "A Walk to Remember."
