SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Outfielder Hunter Pence was held out of the Giants starting lineup Saturday for the first time since 2012, ending the longest consecutive starting streak in the majors at 331 games.
The 2014 All-Star had not missed a start since Sept. 23, 2012. Assured of a spot in next week's wild card game, San Francisco also did not start regulars Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval.
Pence flied out to left while pinch hitting in the seventh inning of San Francisco's 3-1 win, extending the majors' longest active streak for consecutive games played to 382.
