MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Madison is moving ahead with plans to build a new performance center on campus.
Architects will present their design to a city commission on Wednesday. The $22 million project includes a 325-seat recital hall, large rehearsal room and lobby. And it's funded by anonymous donors.
More than 160 events were staged last year in Morphy Hall — the current recital venue, including concerts by faculty, guest artists, small chamber groups and student recitals. The UW School of Music has about 300 music majors, both undergraduates and graduates.
The new building is designed by Holzman Moss Bottino Architects of New York City and Strang Architects of Madison. It includes a glass-walled lobby and rehearsal room, allowing passers-by to view rehearsals.
