CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Indians pitchers have set a major league record for strikeouts in one season.

Corey Kluber recorded the record-breaking number when he struck out Tampa Bay's David DeJesus in the eighth inning Friday night, the Indians' 1,429th K of the season.

Detroit's pitchers fanned 1,428 in 2013.

Tampa Bay also can pass the Tigers' mark. The Rays went into Friday with 1,413 strikeouts.
