LAS VEGAS (AP) — The arrests of two men and two women during sidewalk chalk protests last year have spawned a federal civil rights lawsuit against Las Vegas police. The civil lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas seeks unspecified monetary damages and a court declaration that protesting on public sidewalks isn't against the law. A spokeswoman says the police department doesn't comment on lawsuits.

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a pilot from Arizona escaped serious injury when the small plane he was flying crashed in gusty winds while landing at Elko Regional Airport. An airport official tells the Elko Daily Free Press that pilot Scott Stewart of Tucson was unhurt when the single-engine Cirrus Aircraft crashed yesterday.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tourism officials say Las Vegas visitor counts got a boost from one extra weekend day in August. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says 3.5 million travelers visited the area last month, up 5.1 percent compared with the same month last year. Travelers filled almost 88 percent of the region's hotel rooms in August.

NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Swift and Metallica are among the performers set for the U.S. debut of the Rock in Rio music festival next year. The festival announced today that No Doubt and Linkin Park also will perform on the main stage during the four-day event in Las Vegas. The Deftones and John Legend will perform on a different stage. Rock in Rio USA will take place May 8-9 and 15-16.
