SALT LAKE COUNTY — A man was seriously injured in a mountain biking accident Friday afternoon and had to be airlifted out of Big Cottonwood Canyon, police said.
The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. in Big Cottonwood Canyon on the Mill D trail, according to Unified Police Lt. John Barker.
The 39-year-old man was about 1 1/2 miles up the trail when he fell off his bike and cut himself on the upper leg, Barker said.
The man, who was not identified by police, used a cellphone to call for help, the lieutenant said.
The Salt Lake County search and rescue team responded, along with paramedics from the Unified Fire Authority. Ultimately, a helicopter had to be called in.
"Life Flight was able to respond and use their hoist and lift him up out of here and fly him to the hospital," Barker said.
The man was listed in serious condition Friday night.
