ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say a pilot from Arizona escaped serious injury when the small plane he was flying crashed in gusty winds while landing at Elko Regional Airport.
Airport Security Manager Rick Hofheins tells the Elko Daily Free Press (http://bit.ly/1t2gS4E ) that pilot Scott Stewart of Tucson was unhurt when the single-engine Cirrus Aircraft crashed Thursday.
The wrecked plane came to rest against a Nevada Division of Forestry Interagency Dispatch Center, but the building wasn't damaged.
Airport Director Mark Gibbs says Elko fire and airport personnel responded, and bomb technicians safely disabled a parachute attached to the plane.
Hofheins says a similar crash occurred in Elko in windy conditions in 2005.
A pilot and occupant in that crash had minor injuries after a small plane crashed in a pharmacy parking lot.
