NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker's didn't practice Thursday because of an injured right wrist, as his status for Sunday's game with the Indianapolis Colts remains uncertain.

"He's getting better," Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "I guess he's got a shot until he doesn't have a shot. That's the best way to look at it. I know he's studied the plan. We talk about it on the practice field all the time, so it's a question of where he progresses physically."

Whisenhunt said that "probably Saturday will be the real determining day" in whether Locker can play. Titans backup Charlie Whitehurst says he's ready if Locker can't go.

"I'd say there was a higher possibility today than there was yesterday of playing," Whitehurst said. "I feel good about the two days, and we'll see what happens tomorrow. I'll put in some good work, and we'll go from there."

Whitehurst hasn't started a game since 2011 with the Seattle Seahawks, but he doesn't expect the long layoff to be an issue if he plays Sunday. Whitehurst appeared in two games last year with the San Diego Chargers, though he didn't attempt a pass.

The 32-year-old Whitehurst has experience with this offense, as he was in San Diego last season while Whisenhunt was the Chargers' offensive coordinator.

"If you're called upon, there's no room for having any rust," Whitehurst said. "I don't think like that. That's what practice is for. You try to get in the groove of things and make it happen on Sunday."

Tight end Delanie Walker was limited Thursday with a shoulder injury. Tight end Taylor Thompson and defensive end Ropati Pitoitua didn't practice due to knee injuries.
