POWELL, Wyo. (AP) — A judge has ordered a former science professor at Northwest College in Powell to serve prison time for the sexual abuse of a boy.
Park County District Court Judge Steven Cranfill on Monday sentenced 69-year-old Bruce Watne to serve 18- to 24 months in prison on his guilty plea to second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
The Powell Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1mv2moY ) some witnesses at Monday's hearing described Watne as an upstanding man in the Powell community. He was arrested in June 2013.
Watne said he took responsibility for molesting the boy and is sorry for the impact it has had on him and his family.
Prosecutors had asked Cranfill to sentence Watne to up to 10 years in prison. Watne's lawyer and supporters had requested a sentence of supervised probation.
