Vikings' Cassel done for season...Dodgers, Giants battle...Closing in on wild card berths

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel is out for the season with broken bones in his left foot. He's been put on injured reserve for the injury he sustained in Sunday's game against New Orleans. Rookie Teddy Bridgewater came in after Cassel was hurt. Guard Brandon Fusco is also out for the season with a pectoral muscle injury in the same game.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The NL West-leading Dodgers and Giants continue their series in LA tonight with both teams on the verge of clinching. A Los Angeles victory gives the Dodgers the division title, while the Giants can wrap up a wild card spot with a win or a Milwaukee loss to Cincinnati.

DETROIT (AP) — The Tigers enter today's home game against the White Sox nursing a one-game lead over Kansas City for first in the AL Central. It's a match-up of 14-game winner Justin Verlander for the Tigers against Chris Sale who is 12-4.

UNDATED (AP) — Kansas City and Oakland are tied for the two American League wild card spots, three games up on Seattle heading into today's play. Kansas City visits Cleveland, the Athletics host the Angels and the Mariners are in Toronto.

NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter's hopes of ending his stellar 20-year career with the Yankees in the postseason could come to an end this afternoon. The Yankees' long-time captain and his teammates are on the brink of postseason elimination heading into an afternoon game against Baltimore at Yankee Stadium.
