EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State University is getting a $3 million federal grant for a facility designed to help food businesses better process and market their products.
Democratic U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin on Tuesday announced the grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, part of the Commerce Department.
Stabenow says the certified food processing facility will help Michigan small businesses compete nationally and worldwide. She says it aims to help companies that employ between 10 and 100 people get their products to market.
Her office says in a statement that it will help "second stage food processing companies looking to create new products and product line extensions to sell into the retail supply chain."
