TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State University's tumultuous search for a new president is expected to come to an end.
The FSU board is scheduled on Tuesday to pick a new leader from a group of finalists that includes powerful state Sen. John Thrasher. The St. Augustine Republican is a former House speaker and chairman of Gov. Rick Scott's re-election campaign.
Thrasher is seen as the front runner for the post. He's competing against three other contenders from Colorado, Alabama and West Virginia who have academic backgrounds.
But Thrasher's candidacy has come under fire from some students and faculty who have criticized his lack of academic experience.
FSU has been without a president since Eric Barron stepped down to take the top post at Penn State University.
