LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) — Irish Presence rallied from last to win the $73,500 Las Madrinas Stakes by a half-length, ending a 15-race skid Sunday on closing day of the fall meet at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Kent Desormeaux, Irish Presence ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.86 and paid $6.60 and $3. It was the 4-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute's first win since Feb. 13, 2013, at Golden Gate Fields.
Legacy returned $3. My Happy Face, the 13-10 favorite, faded to third after setting the early pace. There was no show wagering because of the four-horse field.
The victory, worth $45,000, increased Irish Presence's career earnings to $155,819, with three wins in 23 starts.
