SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State officials say Utah unemployment figures remained unchanged at 3.6 percent in August, tying the state with two others for second-lowest in the nation.
Gov. Gary R. Herbert says the Department of Workforce Services figures released this week, plus a state fiscal surplus this year, show that conservative fiscal policies are working well.
The report says Utah's private sector industries added 44,700 jobs in the past 12 months. Construction saw an increase of 11.2 percent. Information industries grew by 7.3 percent.
North Dakota, with an oil and gas drilling boom, has the lowest jobless rate nationally, at 2.8 percent. Utah is tied with Nebraska and South Dakota.
Workforce Services reported Utah job growth was the second highest in the nation, at 3.5 percent. That trails only North Dakota.
