BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho judge has ruled there's enough evidence against a man charged with killing his girlfriend and burying her in a cornfield that he be bound over for trial. The Idaho Statesman reports that 38-year-old Alfredo Martinez is charged with second-degree murder, destruction of evidence and failure to notify authorities about a death.
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — County officials in Idaho have approved a resolution that would shift public defense responsibilities to the state. Nearly 200 representatives from the state's 44 counties voted on the resolution at the annual Idaho County Association conference. The resolution will now go before state lawmakers for approval when they convene in January for the 2015 Legislature.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Authorities say an Idaho man who hadn't returned home from a picture-taking excursion in Utah was found dead in a river. Cache County deputies say they found the body of 62-year-old Malad resident Burt Singleton floating in the waters of the Logan River. Investigators have ruled out foul play and believe Singleton accidentally drowned or suffered a medical episode.
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — The southwestern Idaho city of Caldwell is spending $65,000 to improve its image. Mayor Garret Nancolas tells KBOI-TV that crime is down dramatically and by one measurement is at its lowest since 1985. Businesses donated $60,000 and the city is putting in another $5,000 to pay for a study that will help guide city leaders in how to revamp the town.
