HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Astros have signed a two-year contract to move their Triple-A affiliate to Fresno, California.
Houston's Triple-A team had been in Oklahoma City since 2011 and was in Round Rock, Texas, from 2005-2010.
Reid Ryan, the Astros' president of business operations, says that Fresno was a good fit because it is close to Houston's Single-A affiliate in Lancaster and it will allow easy access to players when the team is playing on the West Coast.
Houston director of player development Quinton McCracken says the ballpark is "one of the more pitcher-friendly parks in the league, so we feel Fresno will provide a great environment for the development of our players."
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Wednesday that they would change their Triple-A affiliation to Oklahoma City next year. Fresno opened when the San Francisco Giants shifted to Sacramento, California.
