RENO, Nev. (AP) — An elementary education major at the University of Nevada, Reno has been named one of two winners of a $4,500 memorial scholarship named after late Gov. Kenny Guinn.
State Treasurer Kate Marshall announced on Tuesday that UNR senior Devan Gaddis is the northern Nevada recipient of the scholarship.
Gaddis graduated from Truckee Meadows Community College High School in 2012. She's currently working toward her degree at UNR with an emphasis in special education.
Marshall says Gaddis is an "extraordinary young woman" who has been on the Dean's List since the spring of 2011 and has earned nearly a perfect grade point average.
Former First Lady Dema Guinn said at a ceremony on the UNR campus that the scholarship is a symbol of the love her husband had for Nevada and education.
