SAN BERNADINO COUNTY, Calif. — A bride who knew her father had only weeks to live surprised him by canceling her dream wedding and brought the ceremony to his hospital room so he could give her away and dance with her.
Lisa Wilson told CBS2 in Los Angeles that she and her fiance, Robert Pantoja, decided to move up their wedding so her father David, who was battling a rare cancer, could be there.
“No, it's not a bride's dream,” Wilson told CBS2, referring to her wedding in a hospital room.
When Wilson told her dad she wanted to have a daddy/daughter dance, he initially protested.
"I said you don't have to," she said. "I want to dance with your hands."
They danced to Whitney Houston's “I Will Always Love You" with tears streaming down Lisa Wilson's face and David Wilson lay with an oxygen mask. The video was posted to Facebook and YouTube so friends and family could view it, but it quickly went viral and has been shared almost 370,000 times.
Wilson and Pantoja were married on Friday, Aug. 22. David Wilson passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
