MOAPA, Nev. (AP) — Tourists and truckers are faced with another day of disruptive detours around a closed stretch of busy Interstate 15 in southern Nevada that crumbled in chunks during intense flash flooding. Crews are mopping up from Monday's downpour and runoff that also took out part of a main rail freight line and swelled a river high. A state disaster assessment team is due in the Moapa and Logandale area today to begin determining if the region would qualify for funds from the state.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval has ordered the Nevada Legislature into a special session today to consider $1.3 billion in tax breaks and other incentives for electric car-maker Tesla Motors. The deal would forgive most sales, use and property taxes for at least a decade so Tesla will build in an industrial park east Sparks.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada has scored nearly $30 million in federal funding for projects including improved bike lanes in Las Vegas and a rapid bus service between Reno and Sparks. Sen. Harry Reid announced yesterday that Nevada had won $13.3 million for projects in southern Nevada and $16 million for the north.
MIAMI (AP) — Singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat has been named The Latin Recording Academy's person of the year. Serrat will be honored for his artistic and social accomplishments and his contributions to Latin culture at a tribute concert on Nov. 19 in Las Vegas, the day before The Latin Grammy Awards are held in the city.
