SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say they have temporarily halted the search for a Riverton man whose boat capsized last week on Flaming Gorge Reservoir in eastern Utah.

Charles Darrell Thomas, 69, was in a small motor boat with his girlfriend on Sept. 1 when it turned over between the Antelope Flats area and Lucerne Marina. She used a floating seat cushion to swim to shore and got help at a nearby campsite.

Susie Potter with the Daggett County Sheriff's Office said wind and rain predicted for this week would make searching the deep water dangerous and the pause gives rescuers time to rest.

Potter said the sheriff plans to resume the search in the coming days.
