KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — A Coast Guard cutter is on the way to where a small plane crashed near Jamaica after a 1,700-mile journey down the Atlantic Coast. Two U.S. fighter jets followed the aircraft and noticed that the pilot appeared to be incapacitated. It took off in Rochester, New York, and was to have landed in Florida. It was being operated by a prominent developer and wife, both pilots.
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — The sounds of artillery and gunfire have fallen silent in eastern Ukraine. That's because Ukraine, Russia and the Kremlin-backed separatists have signed a cease-fire deal. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says the cease-fire was based on an agreement reached during a "long conversation" with Russian President Vladimir Putin and would be watched over by international monitors.
NEWPORT, Wales (AP) — According to President Barack Obama, the U.S. and its NATO allies have the ability to "dismantle" the Islamic State militant group, so that, in his words, "they can't do us harm." The U.S. and 10 allies agreed today at the NATO summit in Wales that they'd squeeze the financial resources of the militants, while also going after them with military force.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma City police officer charged with sexually assaulting at least eight women has been released on $500,000 bond two days after it was reduced from $5 million. Prosecutors had argued that Daniel Ken Holtzclaw is a danger to the community. He must turn in his police gear, guns and badge and is prohibited from contacting any alleged victims. They say they were threatened with arrest or physical harm unless they complied.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A South Carolina woman accused of trying to kill her three children by driving her minivan into the Atlantic Ocean off Daytona Beach has admitted to violating the terms of her pretrial release by drinking a medicine containing alcohol. But a lawyer for Ebony Wilkerson says his client didn't realize that NyQuil contains alcohol. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, woman was pregnant when police say she drove into the water March 4. She gave birth to a boy in May.
