CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami sophomore guard Davon Reed is expected to miss four to six months after surgery.

The Hurricanes announced Reed's injury Friday, one day after he had the surgery on what university officials described as a "left lower extremity." He was injured in an offseason workout earlier in the week.

Reed made 10 starts for Miami last season and averaged 6.6 points and 1.7 rebounds per game, shooting 36 percent from 3-point range. He averaged 11.5 points in Miami's two games at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Miami coach Jim Larrañaga says the Hurricanes "were counting on him to play multiple positions this season."

The Hurricanes open with an exhibition against Eckerd on Nov. 6, with the regular-season-opener at home against Howard on Nov. 14.
