BEIRUT (AP) — Islamic State extremists are threatening the lives of more Western captives unless airstrikes against them in Iraq come to a halt. The group has released a video showing the beheading of a second American journalist, Steven Sotloff. The United States says it has confirmed the video's authenticity.
MOSCOW (AP) — There are no details yet about a cease-fire agreement in eastern Ukraine. The office of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko issued a brief statement today announcing a deal and there's no reaction yet from pro-Russia separatists. Earlier, a spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said the two leaders found they "largely share views" on ways out of the crisis.
TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — President Barack Obama is in the Baltic state of Estonia amid nervousness in the region about the Ukraine crisis and Russia's intentions. Obama plans a show of solidarity with NATO allies who fear they could be the next target of Russia's aggression. Obama's daylong trip to Estonia comes ahead of a NATO summit this week where the Ukraine crisis will dominate the discussions.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Atlantic City's Convention Center is being taken over by the jobless today as thousands of newly laid-off casino workers plan to attend a mass unemployment filing following the closing of the Showboat and Revel. The session will be the most visible manifestation of the nearly eight-year downturn plaguing Atlantic City, New Jersey's casino industry as the market becomes saturated by competition in other states.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Authorities in Missouri say a suspect in the deaths of three people in Kansas city is still on the loose. The shootings in a middle-class cul-de-sac in south Kansas City yesterday also left two people critically wounded. Kansas City police say two of the victims were killed in one location, one was killed at another and the two people who were wounded were found at a third location, but all in the same neighborhood.
