NEW YORK (AP) — Second seed Roger Federer, sixth seed Thomas Berdych (BUR'-dihch) and No. 7 Grigor Dimitrov have advanced to the fourth round of the U.S. Open by winning on Sunday, but fourth seed David Ferrer (dah-VEED feh-REHR') lost to No. 29 Gilles Simon (ZHIHL see-MOHN') and 12th seed Richard Gasquet fell to Gael Monfils (mohn-FEE'). Women's 10th seed Caroline Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK'-ee) moved into the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam event for the first time in two years by ousting No. 5 Maria Sharapova in three sets. No. 13 Sara Errani also reached the quarters, but ninth seed Jelena Jankovic (jeh-LAY'-nah YANK'-oh-vihch) and No. 14 Lucie Safarova were beaten.

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — Kasey Kahne (kayn) grabbed the lead on the restart following a caution with 23 laps remaining and held off Matt Kenseth in a two-lap shootout to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Denny Hamlin was third, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and Danica Patrick. Tony Stewart hit the wall for the second time after his right front tire blew out on Lap 172, ending his night with a 41st-place finish.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Tenth-ranked Baylor has opened its new stadium with a victory. Bryce Petty threw for two touchdowns and ran for another while playing just two quarters as the Bears ripped SMU 45-0. The Bears sacked SMU's three quarterbacks a combined eight times and held the Mustangs to 67 total yards.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) — Russell Henley fired a 6-under-par 65 to take the third-round lead at the PGA's Deutsche Bank Championship near Boston. Henley carded five birdies during a seven-hole stretch and moved to 12-under for the tournament. Billy Horschel is one stroke back and one ahead of Rory McIlroy, Chris Kirk and Jason Day.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Fred Couples tapped in for birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Billy Andrade (AN'-drayd) in the Champions Tour's Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary. Couples chipped in for eagle on 18 for a course-record 9-under 61 and a 15-under total. He also eagled the par-5 11th and had five birdies in his bogey-free round.
