SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Attorneys for three Utah gay and lesbian couples are formally asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take Utah's appeal of a favorable gay marriage ruling. The attorneys say gay couples around the country will continue to live in uncertainty until the Supreme Court weighs in on whether the bans violate the Constitution. Utah filed its appeal to the high court in early August.
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — A polygamous man who oversaw an Idaho home where nine boys were sent on repentance missions by Warren Jeffs has pleaded guilty to three counts of child abuse. The Idaho State Journal reports that Nathan Jessop was sentenced to 10 days in jail and two years' probation. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that a police report shows Jessop is accused of not feeding the boys and hitting them.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say fingerprints on Lego toys helped them solve a 23-year-old murder case in Utah. Detectives investigating the murder of 78-year-old Lucille Johnson in 1991 found the toys scattered on the floor of her Salt Lake County home. Investigators found latent fingerprints on the Legos matching John Sansing's then-5-year-old son. Sansing is a 47-year-old death row inmate in Arizona.
OREM, Utah (AP) — A woman who couldn't quite make it to a Provo hospital ended up delivering a baby boy in an Orem parking lot earlier this week. The Daily Herald reports Benjamin Anderson was born Monday in the family minivan while his two older sisters looked on.
