KEARNS, Utah (AP) — The parents of a Kearns woman accused of abandoning her baby in a trash can say their daughter didn't understand what she was doing was wrong. Alicia Englert was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of attempted murder. Police say the 2-day-old girl was on a ventilator and in critical condition in a hospital. Englert's father told Utah media outlets that his daughter had a learning disability.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge in Salt lake City has issued a final ruling that strikes down parts of the state's anti-polygamy law in a lawsuit filed by a family that appears on the TV show "Sister Wives." The ruling is a landmark decision and a victory for the Brown family. Kody Brown and his four wives sued Utah in 2011 after a county prosecutor threatened to charge them under the state's bigamy law. Judge Clark Waddoups had ruled that a provision of Utah's law forbidding cohabitation violated the Browns' freedom of religion.

VERNAL, Utah (AP) — A Utah woman accused of using a pound of bacon to start a fire in her ex-boyfriend's house will stand trial on arson charges. Police say 32-year-old Cameo Crispi left the bacon over a lit burner. Charging documents say Crispi's blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit. Her attorney declined to comment.

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Law enforcement at Yellowstone National Park is investigating the death a Montana woman who worked there. Park officials say 21-year-old Kassandra Wieferich of Twin Bridges was found dead Tuesday night in the Old Faithful Lodge area. Officials started searching for Wieferich after she missed shifts at work.
