DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers pitcher Anibal (AH'-nih-bahl) Sanchez said he was feeling better today after experiencing pain in his right pectoral yesterday. Sanchez is 8-5 with a 3.46 ERA, but he hasn't pitched since Aug. 8 due to a pectoral strain. Manager Brad Ausmus said Sanchez will not be able to return for Saturday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox as hoped.
CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton is hitting leadoff tonight against Cleveland after coming off the 15-day disabled list. He was placed on the DL Aug. 9 with a strained right oblique after hitting .304 with seven triples and 55 runs scored in 94 games. And the Chicago Cubs have reinstated shortstop Starlin Castro from the bereavement list in time to start tonight's game against the Reds in Cincinnati.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have bolstered their offensive line by getting six-time Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins from the New England Patriots for tight end Tim Wright and a draft pick. The deal comes less than 24 hours after the Bucs met with Richie Incognito to try to determine if one of the central figures in the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal might be an answer to their problems at guard. General manager Jason Licht did not rule out the possibility of signing Incognito after getting Mankins.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have found a replacement for suspended kicker Matt Prater (PRAY'-tur), acquiring rookie Brandon McManus from the New York Giants for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2015. The Broncos also released kicker Mitch Ewald, who missed an important field goal in Saturday's 18-17 preseason loss to Houston. Prater was banished for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Darlington Raceway will return to its traditional Labor Day weekend date next season in one of the few significant changes to NASCAR's 2015 Sprint Cup Series schedule. Darlington was accommodated by Atlanta Motor Speedway, which gave up the date and will go back to hosting the second race of the season on March 1. NASCAR also has pushed back the second Daytona race of the season from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 5 for next season only.
