KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The U.S. has begun surveillance flights over Syria which could gather intelligence that would be needed if President Barack Obama were to approve military action, such as air strikes, against Islamic State group targets. The White House says Obama has not approved military action inside Syria, but one official calls the surveillance flights an important avenue for obtaining data.
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine says 10 Russian paratroopers have been captured inside the eastern part of the country where pro-Russian rebels are fighting. The Facebook page for the anti-rebel operation says the capture occurred Monday near the Russian border in the Donetsk region. The ceremony's emotional high point was Billy Crystal's graceful tribute to Robin Williams.
