KRASNODON, Ukraine (AP) — Russia appears to be sending military supplies and heavy artillery and other weapons to pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. Reporters for The Associated Press have spotted three convoys in the past week ferrying weaponry into a rebel-held town (Krashnodon) near the porous border with Russia. Both NATO and Ukraine say Moscow shuttles war material to rebels. Moscow routinely denies the charge.
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP) — The thousands of mourners who attended today's funeral for the unarmed black Missouri 18-year-old killed by a white police officer have been challenged to honor Michael Brown by becoming politically engaged. The crowd of 4,500 at a St. Louis church included the parents of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge in Fresno has overturned part of a California law requiring a 10-day waiting period for gun buyers. The judge ruled that there is no evidence that a 'cooling off period' prevents impulsive acts of violence by individuals who already possess a firearm. Californians buying their first firearm will still have to undergo background checks and the 10-day waiting period under the judge's ruling.
GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) — Bomb technicians have been scanning a metal recycling plant in suburban St. Louis following an explosion that killed two people. It's believed the blast was caused by a mortar round. Totall Metal, in Granite City, Illinois, processes materials from the military. A third person was injured.
MIAMI (AP) — Cristobal has strengthened into a hurricane in Atlantic. The storm, now off the Bahamas, is packing winds of 75 mph. Cristobal has been blamed for two deaths. Forecasters say it will curve way from the U.S. East Coast.
