TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Anu Solomon will open the season as Arizona's starting quarterback.

Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday that the redshirt freshman will start under center in Friday night's season opener against UNLV at Arizona Stadium.

A backup to B.J. Denker last season, Solomon emerged from a four-way battle that included former USC quarterback Jesse Scroggins, former LSU quarterback Jarrard Randall and Texas transfer Connor Brewer.

Rodriguez said while Solomon will start the game, the other quarterbacks could see action Friday and the rest of the season.

Solomon was the centerpiece to Arizona's 2013 recruiting class and had the most consistent camp among the four contenders.
