NAPA, Calif. (AP) — It'll take time to clean up the damage from a magnitude-6.0 earthquake that rocked California's wine country early Sunday. But officials in the city of Napa say some progress is being made. Fires are out and work is underway to repair ruptured water and gas lines as well as restore power to thousands of customers. They say 90 to 100 homes have been deemed not habitable.
LIMA, Peru (AP) — There's no official word yet on damage and injuries from a magnitude-6.9 earthquake that struck a sparsely populated area of central Peru on Sunday. Authorities are still surveying the region. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was centered about 27 miles east-northeast of Tambo, and about 290 miles southeast of the capital of Lima. Its depth was 62.8 miles.
TOKYO (AP) — Japan's prime minister is visiting Hiroshima to observe search and cleanup operations following landslides around the city that killed at least 50 people on August 20. Continued rain showers are raising risks of more slides and hampering the search effort there. Rain is also triggering slides in other parts of Japan.
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says it's continuing to search for any more possible bodies or "anyone in distress" after four men were found dead Sunday in waters miles off the South Florida coast. No vessel belonging to the victims has been located. The Coast Guard says the dead have not been identified and it's not clear if they may have been migrants.
MIAMI (AP) — A former Republican governor of Florida is campaigning at early voting sites and black churches seeking voter support ahead of Tuesday's Democratic primary as he bids for his old job back under a different party affiliation. Charlie Crist attended a South Florida church service Sunday, sitting two rows in front of the state's former Senate Democratic leader and chief primary rival Nan Rich.
