SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials and others are reminding drivers to pay special attention to the road as students return to school. AAA Utah is urging drivers to keep an eye out for more pedestrians and more people riding bicycles. More teen drivers will be on the roads, too. Triple-A says it's important for both the newer and more seasoned drivers to stay vigilant.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge has scheduled a three-day trial starting Sept. 8 for an electrician charged with starting a $6 million fire at an unfinished Salt Lake City apartment building. In court yesterday Dustin Bowman's attorneys requested the trial be postponed. The judge hasn't ruled on that request. No one was inside or injured in the nighttime fire on Feb. 9.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The attorney for a woman who nearly died after unknowingly drinking tea laced with a chemical cleaning compound at a South Jordan restaurant says an employee at the eatery burned herself a month earlier on the same substance. Family lawyer Paxton Guymon's comments came at yesterday's news conference where Jan Harding's husband said she is recovering but suffering from nightmares as she relives the incident at Dickey's Barbeque.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Canyons School District is reworking its transportation policy after a driver was charged with sexually abusing students on his bus. A district spokeswoman tells KUTV that parents must buckle and unbuckle their children, or sign permission for another person or the driver to do so. Prosecutors say 61-year-old John Carrell touched two 5-year-old special needs students inappropriately while buckling them on his bus to and from Sandy's Altara Elementary School.
