NEW RIVER, Ariz. (AP) — Students at New River Elementary School are being evacuated from their campus about 30 miles north of Phoenix due to flooding.
Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say the 89 students on campus were transported to the Anthem Community Center on Tuesday afternoon where their parents or guardians can pick them up.
Sheriff's officials say the move is a safety precaution after more than four inches of rain pummeled the New River area.
Some classrooms at New River Elementary were affected by the rain which also flooded some parking lots.
