ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York officials say 81 school districts and community groups are set to receive $340 million to fund full-day pre-kindergarten programs for nearly 37,000 children.

The governor's office says the funding in this year's state budget is the first installment in a commitment to spend $1.5 billion over five years to build a statewide program.

The New York City Department of Education will get $294.5 million.

Others getting funding include the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, $2.86 million; Buffalo City School District, $2.62 million; Ossining Union Free School District, $2.14 million; and Catholic School Region of Central Westchester, $2.2 million.

The awards are subject to review by the state comptroller.
