FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder is asking a federal medical examiner do an autopsy as soon as possible on the black teenager shot by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. The Justice Department says it's taking the step because of the "extraordinary circumstances involved in this case" and at the request of Michael Brown's family. Police say the Justice Department has also expanded its civil rights investigation of the shooting, with 40 FBI agents going door-to-door in the neighborhood gathering information.

IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — Kurdish forces say U.S. airstrikes have helped them retake parts of Iraq's largest dam, which was captured by Islamic militants earlier this month. The U.S. military says U.S. forces conducted 14 airstrikes today. U.S. Central Command says a combination of bombers, fighter jets, attack planes and unmanned drones hit targets near the dam.

CAIRO (AP) — The clock is winding down on the latest Gaza cease-fire, which is set to expire in just over 24 hours. Indirect talks aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hamas have been going on, through Egyptian mediators, since early last week. Palestinians appeared divided, with officials saying Hamas is still opposed to a compromise Egyptian proposal that would ease the closure of the territory, while other factions, including delegates representing President Mahmoud Abbas, are inclined to accept.

HOXIE, Ark. (AP) — A train fire has been put out and about 500 evacuees have been allowed to return home in northeastern Arkansas. Authorities say two Union Pacific train crew members were killed and two were injured when two freight trains collided early today. A Union Pacific spokesman says two cars caught fire, one carrying diesel and one carrying an alcoholic beverage. The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management says no health hazards were detected from the fire.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh's first female mayor has died. Sophie Masloff was 96. Her longtime friend and former top aide, Joseph Mistick, says Masloff died this morning at a nursing home. Masloff took office in May 1988 after the death of Richard S. Caliguiri and served until January 1994. Her tenure was marked by reductions in the city wage tax to keep residents from fleeing to the suburbs and by a complete overhaul of a controversial disciplinary system for police officers.
