SYRINGA, Idaho (AP) — Evacuation orders are in place for stretches of the Clearwater and Selway rivers in northern Idaho due to a wildfire. Fire spokesman Pat McKelvey says about 50 residents as well as campers along the Selway River have been told to leave. The lightning-caused fire started Aug. 3.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A new website is targeting Idaho Democratic gubernatorial candidate A.J. Balukoff, but Balukoff says the site is using lies to undermine his campaign. The site is sponsored by the political action committee of the Idaho Association of Commerce. The site attacks Balukoff's stance on guns, wolves and taxes.
BLACKFOOT, Idaho (AP) — Blackfoot Police Chief Kurt Asmus is apologizing for the actions of four police officers who entered a private business while off-duty. Asmus says the officers had been drinking before they walked through an open gate that was posted with no trespassing signs. Asmus says the business didn't want to press criminal charges.
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Constitution Party of Idaho says it wants nothing to do with its gubernatorial candidate. The Lewiston Tribune reports that delegates at the party's recent state convention in Cascade voted against endorsing Steve Pankey for governor. Constitution Party Chairman Floyd Whitley says Pankey's advocacy for same-sex marriage goes against party beliefs. His name will remain on the ballot.
