GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — Help is on the way for crews facing a new wildfire that is threatening more than 130 homes in southern Oregon and has grown to 300 acres. Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber (KIHTS'-hah-bur) has authorized the state fire marshal to send in structural firefighters and equipment.

CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian proposal to end the latest fighting in Gaza is under consideration by Palestinian negotiators, as the latest temporary cease-fire heads toward expiration at midnight. The proposal calls for easing parts of the Israeli blockade of Gaza, bringing relief to the territory. But it leaves the most contentious issues -- including a full lifting of the closures -- for later talks.

BEIRUT (AP) — Militants of the group Islamic State continue to make territorial gains. Syrian opposition activists say the militants have seized key towns and villages near the border with Turkey after deadly clashes with other rebels in the area. The towns' takeover was reported by activists, jihadists affiliated with the Islamic State and the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of people are about to get letters warning them to resolve issues affecting their coverage under the new health care law. The Obama administration says the letters are going out to about 310,000 people whose citizenship or immigration details don't match what the government has on file. These consumers need to send in their documentation by Sept. 5 to keep coverage.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jimmy Fallon calls Robin Williams the "the Muhammad Ali of comedy." Fallon used the "Tonight Show" to pay tribute to the late actor and comic. Meanwhile, acting icon Lauren Bacall has died at a New York hospital. The wife and co-star of Humphrey Bogart was 89. Bacall once observed that "Stardom isn't a career, it's an accident."
