BAGHDAD (AP) — Political infighting in Iraq's government could hamper its efforts to stem advances by Sunni militants who've already seized a large swath of the country in the north and west. Embattled Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki (NOO'-ree ahl-MAHL'-ih-kee) took to Iraqi television today to resist calls for his resignation and to announce that he's filing a legal complaint against the country's new president for violating the constitution. Al-Maliki says President Fouad Massoum is obstructing his re-election.

CAIRO (AP) — Palestinian negotiator Bassam Salhi says, "We hope to reach a deal within the 72 hours." Negotiators for the Israelis and the Palestinians are resuming peace talks in Cairo, as a 72-hour cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza took effect today. The halt in fighting has allowed Palestinians to leave their homes and shelters and for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza's battered neighborhoods.

(AP) — Tony Stewart says "there aren't words" to describe his sadness over a weekend collision that killed fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. In a statement, Stewart says "my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy." After Stewart had triggered a wreck with a bump at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York, Ward climbed out of his car and walked onto the track, gesturing at Stewart, whose car struck and killed Ward.

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A 17-year-old boy accused of sexually assaulting and killing a 6-year-old Washington state girl is due in court today. Authorities have not released the name of the teen, who's accused of killing Jenise Wright. Her body was found last Thursday, days after she disappeared from her home in a mobile home park in Kitsap County.
