2 exposed to rabid bat in Spartanburg County

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The state Department of Health and Environmental Control says that two people have come into contact with a rabid bat in Spartanburg County.

The health agency says the two may have been bitten while outdoors in the Old Canaan Community. Health officials have advised the two to discuss treatment with their doctors.

The health agency said in a release it's the 79th confirmed case of rabies in an animal in South Carolina this year. Last year in the state there were 124 confirmed cases of rabies in animals.
