IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho — Two men from Salt Lake City were killed in a plane crash in Idaho Tuesday.
David Ray Fitzgerald, 57, and Randy Scott Butters, 61, were identified as the victims of the crash by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office Thursday. Investigators said they were notified of a possible plane crash in the wilderness near Warren, Idaho at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.
“Fitzgerald was reported to be the pilot of the small two seat, single engine, experimental high wing airplane,” a statement from the sheriff’s office reads. “The men frequently went on sightseeing trips together and were traveling from Sulpher Creek Ranch near Cascade to Dixie on this leg of their tour of backcountry airstrips.”
A search team located the crash site near Yellow Pine, Idaho, on Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office. The bodies of the men were taken to Blackmere's Funeral Home in Grangeville, Idaho, and their families were notified of the accident.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Board and an autopsy will be performed on the men, according to the sheriff’s office.
