LAS VEGAS (AP) — Clark County firefighters say multiple people were stung and three people were taken to the hospital after two men apparently provoked a large hive of bees late yesterday. Rescuers wearing bee hoods and full protective gear used fire hoses and firefighting foam to remove the hive and clear the insects from the area near East Tropicana Avenue and Topaz Street. Police detained two men who they say threw objects at the hive.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A trial begins today in Reno for competing lawsuits between Amtrak, Union Pacific Railroad and a Nevada trucking firm over a train-truck crash that killed six people three years ago. Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad have accused John Davis Trucking of Battle Mountain of negligence in its hiring. The trucking firm accuses the two rail companies of failing to provide a proper signal warning at the grade crossing on U.S. 95.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — More than $6.5 million in federal money is headed to southern Nevada to help tackle homelessness. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development yesterday. A $4.6 million Community Development Block Grant is aimed at developing housing and expanding economic opportunity for low- and moderate-income residents.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Australian billionaire James Packer and former Wynn Las Vegas President Andrew Pascal say they're teaming up to develop a Las Vegas Strip resort on the site of the former New Frontier casino. The two said in a statement that they hope to break ground on a resort there in 2015, and expect to complete it by 2018.
