LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Las Vegas performer has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison in the killing and dismembering of his ex-girlfriend, a dancer in the racy "Fantasy" revue at Luxor. Jason Griffith's lawyers promised to appeal the conviction to the Nevada Supreme Court, saying evidence that would have painted Deborah Flores Narvaez as aggressive was not admitted at trial.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden says the Democratic Party is on the rise and reports of its demise are "premature." Biden spoke to about 200 activists gathered to support Erin Bilbray, a Democrat who is challenging Republican Rep. Joe Heck in a swing district in the Las Vegas suburbs. The vice president contends that the public agrees with the party on all major issues, from gay marriage to immigration to the minimum wage.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Hundreds of people rallied outside the federal courthouse in Las Vegas to show support for Israel as a conflict with Hamas rages. Demonstrators waved Israeli flags and wore T-shirts saying "Las Vegas Stands With Israel." At least one man was seen waving a Palestinian flag across the street from the rally.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service has banned exploding targets in southern Idaho, southwestern Wyoming, Nevada, Utah and a small portion of eastern California because of wildfire and public safety concerns. The ban runs through July 22, 2015, on national forest lands. The Forest Service says exploding targets the past two years have started at least 16 wildfires in Western states.
