SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A woman shot and killed by police in an armed confrontation in front of a northern Idaho hospital had been taken there by her husband due to what he described as her erratic and aggressive behavior.
Sgt. Gary Johnston of the Bonner County Sherriff's Office in a statement says the husband told hospital employees he didn't know what to do or where he could take his wife to get help.
Three Sandpoint police officers on July 8 responded to Bonner General Hospital. Police say 35-year-old Jeanetta Marie Riley emerged from a van with a knife.
Authorities say Riley refused commands to not approach officers and refused to drop the knife, and two officers fired five rounds.
Riley was rushed to the hospital's emergency room where she died.
