WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is sending another 300 troops to Iraq to increase security at the U.S. Embassy and elsewhere in Baghdad. The Pentagon says that raises the total U.S. troop presence in Iraq to approximately 750. Meanwhile, the State Department says it is temporarily moving an unspecified "small number" of embassy staff in Baghdad to U.S. consulates in the northern city of Irbil and the southern city of Basra. Some staffers were moved out earlier this month following a Sunni uprising spearheaded by extremists.
CAIRO (AP) — Three homemade bombs have gone off in Cairo near Egypt's presidential palace. Authorities say two senior police officers were killed and 10 other people were injured. The attacks came on the anniversary of mass protests that led to the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he will take new steps without Congress to fix as much of the immigration system as he can on his own. Obama says he's acting because Republicans have engaged in a "year of obstruction." The president also asked lawmakers for more money and additional authority to deal with the unexpected crisis of a surge of unaccompanied Central American youths arriving by the thousands at the Southern border.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Benefits experts say they expect little impact from today's Supreme Court ruling that some companies with religious objections don't have to comply with the contraceptive mandate of the health care overhaul. That's because employers use health benefits to recruit and retain workers. But one analyst says the ruling could lead to discrimination.
TORONTO (AP) — Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has checked out of rehab and concedes he has a drug problem. Ford apologized for his erratic and embarrassing behavior. He said the staff at the rehab facility saved his life and that he is committed to "living clean."
