CHICAGO (AP) — A physician with 15 years' experience at Cook County's public hospital has been named CEO.
Dr. John Jay Shannon has been interim CEO at Cook County Health and Hospitals System since his predecessor left in March.
Crain's Chicago Business reported Friday (bit.ly/1jWpgyy ) that the 54-year-old Shannon has had assignments at the organization several times over the years. Most recently, he returned in 2013 after serving as chief medical officer at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas.
He replaces Dr. Ramanathan Raju. He left to take the head post at New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.
The health system includes John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, Provident Hospital and a network of clinics. It serves a large number of uninsured and low-income patients.
