LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — An invasive scorpion that packs a painful sting is making the Las Vegas, Nevada area home.
Experts believe the "bark scorpions" arrived in palm trees imported from Arizona.
Entomologist Grady Jones has felt their sting.
"I was pretty shocked at how much it hurt," he says. "I got stung on my finger and it stung for about six hours. I had numbness up to my elbow for about a day then spotty numbness for a month in my hand."
Las Vegas provides the perfect place to hide.
They'll spend 80 percent of their life inside their dens, but at night they explore and when they bump into humans they do not hesitate to use their stinger.
