ST. GEORGE — One teen was taken by medical helicopter and four others were injured in a rollover accident Monday evening.
The accident occurred near 670 N. Valley View Drive around 10 p.m., according to St. George police. A 15-year-old female was driving an older model Ford Explorer with four male passengers ages 15 to 18. The vehicle slid sideways at the intersection of 670 N. Valley View Drive before it rolled and hit a chain link fence.
Police said one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and the female driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. The female was airlifted to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas with severe head trauma. The passengers were all transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials said alcohol and speed were believed to be contributing factors in the accident. Two of the juveniles were cited for minor consumption. The accident is still under investigation and more charges are pending.
