SALT LAKE CITY — A man was shot in the buttocks after a fight broke out early Saturday morning, police said.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex near 600 South Redwood Road around 3 a.m., according to Salt Lake City police. A man went to pick up his girlfriend who was at a party with several other men. Salt Lake City police Det. Greg Wilking said the man got into a fight with another man in regards to his girlfriend.
Wilking said several people were involved in the fight and the man was shot in the buttocks by a partygoer. A man described as a heavyset Hispanic adult wearing a gray button-up shirt fired the handgun, according to police. The victim was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police were called to the scene and several people were questioned in connection with the shooting. Gang detectives took over the investigation due to possible gang members being involved with the shooting, Wilking said.
Wilking said police are following up leads and the investigation is ongoing.
