LAS VEGAS (AP) — Zamboni fumes are blamed for the evacuation of an ice rink in Las Vegas and the sickening of several people who were sent to the hospital over the weekend. Clark County firefighters were called to the Las Vegas Ice Center about 10 a.m. yesterday after several people complained of being light-headed or sick. No one was seriously injured.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police are investigating a mishap that claimed the life of a bicyclist north of the city. Police say a white SUV hit and killed the man riding a bicycle Friday night just north of Golden Valley Road. Investigators told KTVN-TV neither speed nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the crash.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A group has filed an initiative petition with the secretary of state's office to expand background checks to nearly all gun sales in Nevada. Nevadans for Background Checks must gather 101,667 signatures by Nov. 11. If the group does so, state lawmakers then would vote to approve or reject the petition in 2015. If rejected, the measure would go to Nevada voters in 2016.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Steve Rossi, one half of the prolific comedy duo Allen & Rossi, has died at age 82. The duo became a favorite of "The Ed Sullivan Show" and other TV variety shows. Rossi's longtime friend Michael Flores told The AP yesterday that he visited his pal in hospice care Friday, and he was weak from cancer of the esophagus that had spread but wasn't in any pain.
